Manchester United will be without six senior players for Tuesday’s Champions League trip to Atletico Madrid after Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw joined the club’s injury list.

Manager Michael Carrick confirmed Monday that neither player had traveled to Spain after picking up problems during Saturday’s Premier League draw with Tottenham. Mainoo completed that match, while Shaw was substituted late in added time.

“At the moment, they are not ready for the game tomorrow,” Carrick said at his pre-match news conference, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Benjamin Sesko, Noussair Mazraoui, Patrick Dorgu and Manuel Ugarte are also unavailable. Ugarte is recovering from knee surgery, while Sesko has a shin problem. Dorgu and Mazraoui returned from international duty with injuries.

United have received some reinforcement elsewhere in the squad. Matthijs de Ligt has traveled to Madrid, Tom Heaton has resumed training and Amad has returned to action.

Carrick has not supplied a firm return date for Mainoo or Shaw. Their absence leaves United without two more established options for the European fixture.
