“Hey, 45 yards, he’s going to make this kick,” Joe Brady said of his confidence in Tyler Bass, according to the Associated Press.

Buffalo’s coach sent Bass out on second down with 1:55 left in overtime Monday night. The 45-yard field goal gave the Bills a 37–34 win over the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium.

Brady’s decision came after Josh Allen gained 32 yards on consecutive runs of 19 and 13 yards. James Cook then ran for no gain, leaving Buffalo at the Los Angeles 27-yard line when the two-minute warning arrived.

The Bills had needed another chance. On their first overtime possession, Khalil Shakir turned a short Allen pass into a 57-yard gain. Cook fumbled on the next play, with Nate Landman forcing the ball loose and Aaron Donald recovering for the Rams.

Los Angeles drove into field-goal range, but Greg Rousseau blocked Harrison Mevis’ 48-yard attempt. Buffalo took over at its own 38 and used Allen’s running to reach Bass’ range.

Bass made all three of his field-goal attempts despite missing an extra point in the third quarter. His winning kick left Buffalo 4–1 and gave Allen his first overtime victory as an NFL starting quarterback.
