Jodar Becomes Shanghai’s Youngest Semifinalist and Will Face Medvedev
Jodar beat Casper Ruud for his fourth consecutive comeback win; Medvedev recovered from a second-set setback against Tommy Paul.

Rafael Jodar became the youngest semifinalist in Shanghai Masters history on Friday, beating Casper Ruud 4–6, 6–4, 6–3 to set up a meeting with Daniil Medvedev.
The 20-year-old Spaniard has won four consecutive matches from a set down at this tournament. Against Ruud, he broke serve five times across the final two sets and finished the quarterfinal in two hours and 20 minutes, according to the official tournament report.
Medvedev defeated Tommy Paul 6–3, 1–6, 6–3 in two hours and nine minutes. The 2019 Shanghai champion improved his career record against Paul to 5–1 and reached the semifinals here for the third time.
In the deciding set, Paul landed 47 percent of his first serves and made 17 unforced errors, the tournament report said. Medvedev is the only former Shanghai champion remaining.
The other Saturday semifinal will be Alexander Zverev against Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Both Jodar and Medvedev also improved their positions in the race to qualify for the season-ending ATP Finals.
