Jalen Hurts is out: Week 6 fantasy quarterback replacements to consider

Bryce Young leads this Sunday shortlist, with Tyler Shough and Michael Penix Jr. offering alternatives. Keep Hurts while arranging a replacement.

Jalen Hurts will not play against Carolina in Week 6, the Eagles announced Thursday. Fantasy managers need a Sunday replacement and should keep Hurts on their roster while waiting for further team updates.

This shortlist assumes a 12-team league with one starting quarterback and four points per passing touchdown. Availability depends on your league. These are replacement options, not a reason to bench a healthy established starter you already roster.

First check: Bryce Young at Philadelphia

Young is my preferred option from this group if he is available. NBC Sports’ Thursday rankings place him tenth for the week and note his strong fantasy production coming out of Carolina’s bye. FantasyPros also identifies him as a viable QB1 against Philadelphia.

The appeal is his own production and passing opportunity. Hurts’ absence does not automatically make the opposing quarterback a good start. In a normal one-quarterback league, Young is the first name here to compare with the other available starters.

Next option: Tyler Shough at the Giants

Shough offers a volume-based alternative. Both NBC Sports and FantasyPros’ matchup analysis emphasize how heavily New Orleans depends on its passing game. That creates a route to useful yardage even when the offense is uneven.

He remains a riskier choice than Young on this shortlist. A large number of attempts can also bring stalled drives or turnovers. Compare your league’s interception penalty before choosing him simply for volume, and avoid assuming he will replace Hurts’ rushing points.

Health-dependent option: Michael Penix Jr. vs. Chicago

Penix practiced fully Wednesday after a ribs issue, according to Thursday’s injury reporting. Confirm his final status and the Falcons’ active list before committing. His efficiency has been more encouraging than his fantasy volume, making him more attractive as a second quarterback than as a high-upside one-quarterback start.

If you choose Penix, keep another Sunday starter available until his status is settled. A small difference in a weekly ranking is less useful than having a confirmed player in the lineup.

Where Tanner McKee fits

Philadelphia’s replacement belongs in the deeper-league discussion. Starting the same offense does not give McKee Hurts’ rushing role. In superflex leagues, a confirmed starting quarterback may still be valuable; in a shallow one-quarterback league, compare the established options above first.

Move Hurts to an eligible injury slot if your platform permits it, then add the replacement. Do not infer a return date from a one-game absence. Thursday’s Seattle–Denver game has already started at publication, so those quarterbacks are no longer ordinary late-week alternatives in leagues that lock players at kickoff.
