Hoeneß credits Stuttgart’s cover after 3–0 win at Slovan

Sebastian Hoeneß praised Stuttgart’s first-half protection after losing possession and the timing of its second goal in Bratislava.

“I saw a decent first half with many chances for us. We generally had good cover when we lost the ball,” Sebastian Hoeneß said after Stuttgart’s 3–0 Champions League victory at Slovan Bratislava on October 14.

In Stuttgart’s edited postmatch reaction, translated from German, Hoeneß said his team lost some clarity after halftime but scored its second goal at a particularly useful moment.

Slovan had an equalizer ruled out for offside and hit the crossbar before Sandro Cruz’s 65th-minute own goal doubled Stuttgart’s lead. Deniz Undav had opened the scoring, and Ermedin Demirović added the third in the 90th minute.

Hoeneß called the margin deserved and said Stuttgart would turn to recovery before its Bundesliga visit to Hamburg.
