Georgia moved to No. 1 in Sunday’s AP Top 25 after beating Alabama 20–17, taking over the position Texas lost with its 27–24 defeat against Oklahoma.
The Bulldogs returned to the top of the poll for the first time since 2024, according to the Associated Press report. Kirby Smart’s team gained the decisive result at Alabama while the previous No. 1 lost the Red River rivalry on the final play.
Texas fell to seventh in the AP rankings. The Longhorns had held the top position for four weeks before Oklahoma’s late interception and winning field goal changed their weekend.
Oregon and Florida dropped out of the poll. Their defeats added to a weekend that changed both the leading position and the membership of the Top 25, as detailed in ESPN’s poll report.
Georgia’s move follows a narrow road victory rather than a runaway result. The win over Alabama supplied the strongest immediate argument for the Bulldogs when voters reconsidered the order after Saturday’s games.
Georgia received 66 of the 69 first-place votes, according to Yahoo Sports’ poll breakdown. That gives the Bulldogs a clear lead in the voters’ assessment heading into the next week.
