Former Rangers Forward Ron Duguay Dies at 69

The Rangers said his family informed the team. Duguay played 12 NHL seasons and scored 274 regular-season goals.

Ron Duguay, the former New York Rangers forward who played 12 NHL seasons, died Thursday at 69. A Rangers spokesperson told The Associated Press that Duguay’s family had informed the team of his death.

A native of Sudbury, Ontario, Duguay was selected 13th overall by the Rangers in the 1977 draft. He helped New York reach the 1979 Stanley Cup Final and scored 40 goals for the Rangers in 1981–82.

Duguay also played for the Detroit Red Wings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Los Angeles Kings. The NHL’s official career record lists 274 goals and 346 assists for 620 points. He added 53 points in 89 playoff games.

He later worked as a Rangers analyst on MSG Network.

“The New York Rangers organization mourns the loss of Ron Duguay, one of the most popular players in franchise history,” the team said in a statement. The Rangers also extended condolences to his family, friends and loved ones.
