Senators Score Five Unanswered Goals to Beat Panthers 5–1
Ottawa answered Florida’s first-period opener with five straight goals, including two at even strength in the third period.

The Ottawa Senators scored five unanswered goals to beat the Florida Panthers 5–1 on October 21 at Canadian Tire Centre.
Warren Foegele and Stephen Halliday scored at even strength in the third period after Claude Giroux and Shane Pinto put Ottawa ahead with second-period goals.
Brady Tkachuk gave Florida a 1–0 lead on the power play at 10:00 of the first, with Matthew Tkachuk and Seth Jones assisting. Tim Stützle tied it on the power play at 14:13, assisted by Jake Sanderson and Halliday.
Giroux put Ottawa ahead at 9:34 of the second, with Nikolas Matinpalo assisting. Pinto made it 3–1 at 17:18 on Sanderson’s second assist. Foegele scored at 7:58 of the third, assisted by Dylan Cozens and Drake Batherson, before Halliday added the final goal at 14:57, assisted by Stützle.
Ottawa outshot Florida 30–19. Akira Schmid stopped 25 shots for the Panthers. Linus Ullmark made 17 saves and Samuel Ersson stopped one shot for the Senators.
Ullmark left early in the third with an apparent injury after a pad save on Brady Tkachuk and needed help leaving the ice, The Associated Press reported. No diagnosis was provided.
Both teams play again October 22 at 5 p.m. MDT. Florida visits Pittsburgh at PPG Paints Arena; Ottawa hosts San Jose at Canadian Tire Centre.

Correction: An earlier version incorrectly described Ottawa’s two third-period goals as short-handed, following the NHL’s initial game feed. Corrected NHL scoring and play-by-play records identify both goals as even strength. The headline, description and report have been corrected.
