Brentford’s 3–0 win leaves Chelsea winless in three
Brentford scored all three goals after halftime to stay unbeaten. Chelsea have conceded 12 times in five Premier League matches.

Brentford scored three second-half goals to beat Chelsea 3–0 on Friday, September 18, securing their first home victory over the Blues since 1938 and extending Chelsea’s winless Premier League run to three matches.
The result at Gtech Community Stadium kept Brentford unbeaten and took them to nine points from five games. The club said it was their best five-match start in the Premier League, surpassing the eight points they collected in 2021–22.
Chelsea threatened before halftime. Caoimhín Kelleher saved Pedro Neto’s first-time shot after Danny Welbeck laid the ball off, while Jannik Schuster blocked a goalbound attempt from Morgan Rogers.
Jaidon Anthony broke the deadlock in the 61st minute with his first Brentford goal. Mikkel Damsgaard delivered a corner to the back post, where Schuster headed across goal for Anthony to finish from close range.
Chelsea pushed for an equaliser but struggled to turn pressure into a clear opening. The club’s match report recorded five Chelsea shots blocked between the 66th and 80th minutes.
Igor Thiago made it 2–0 in the 83rd minute. Kevin Schade broke through and had his shot saved by Emiliano Martínez, but Thiago converted the rebound for his first league goal of the season.
Substitute Fábio Carvalho added the third in the fourth minute of stoppage time, finishing at the back post after Schade’s low cross was deflected into his path.
Brentford head coach Keith Andrews praised his players’ approach after the victory.
“We had a positive mindset to take the game to them and scored in different ways. We defended resiliently again,” Andrews said in comments published by the club.
Chelsea have conceded 12 goals in five league matches. Their opening victories over Fulham and Brighton have been followed by a defeat at Arsenal and a home draw with Hull City before Friday’s loss.
“We have not been able to keep that level throughout these few games in the start of the season,” Chelsea coach Xabi Alonso said, according to Reuters.
Alonso made five changes to his starting side, with Reece James and João Pedro unavailable. Jordan Henderson made his Chelsea debut against his former club, while Welbeck made his first Premier League start for the Blues.
Chelsea remain on seven points. They are scheduled to return from the international break at home to Bournemouth on October 10.
