The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 2–1 in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series on Sunday, October 11, at American Family Field. Luis Lara’s fifth-inning RBI single put Milwaukee ahead, and its bullpen protected the lead through the final out.
The Brewers lead the best-of-seven series 1–0. The victory ended their seven-game postseason losing streak against Los Angeles, including last year’s NLCS sweep, The Associated Press reported.
Brice Turang’s leadoff homer off Tarik Skubal tied the game in the fourth. An inning later, Garrett Mitchell walked, Cooper Pratt moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt, and Lara singled into center field to bring him home.
The Dodgers had taken a second-inning lead when Andy Pages singled in Shohei Ohtani. They loaded the bases later in that inning, but Kiké Hernández grounded into a double play, leaving Los Angeles with one run after making Jacob Misiorowski throw 35 pitches.
Misiorowski exited with one out in the fifth after 94 pitches. He allowed five hits and three walks but only one run. DL Hall entered and induced a Freddie Freeman double play, according to True Blue LA’s recap.
Hall, Abner Uribe, Aaron Ashby and Trevor Megill combined for 4⅔ scoreless innings. Uribe stranded runners at the corners by striking out Pages in the sixth, and Ashby handled the next two innings.
Megill issued two-out walks to Kyle Tucker and pinch-hitter Josue De Paula in the ninth. With the tying run in scoring position, Mookie Betts flied out to center to end the game.
Skubal took the loss after allowing two runs over five innings with seven strikeouts. Hall earned the win, and Megill recorded the save.
Game 2 is Monday, October 12, in Milwaukee. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is scheduled to start for the Dodgers against Logan Henderson.
