Brandon Woodruff is throwing off a mound again as he works toward a possible return if the Milwaukee Brewers reach the World Series.

The right-hander completed bullpen work in San Diego and another session Saturday ahead of Milwaukee’s NLCS preparations. He threw 20 pitches in the latest workout, which consisted of fastballs, Yahoo Sports reported Sunday, October 11.

The progress does not amount to clearance for a game. Milwaukee must first advance past the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Woodruff still has to build toward facing major-league hitters.

His comeback attempt follows a right-shoulder problem that kept him out after a July 4 appearance at Arizona. An August operation had been planned before his surgeon recommended a throwing program instead, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s October 3 report.

Woodruff remains outside the Brewers’ NLCS roster. Milwaukee retained the same 26 players it used against San Diego, with 13 pitchers and 13 position players, Brew Crew Ball reported.

A World Series return remains conditional on his recovery and the Brewers’ results. The bullpen sessions are a step in that process, with no appearance yet assured.
