Seiya Suzuki approaches free agency with his Cubs future undecided
Suzuki’s five-year deal is ending after a season with 26 home runs and an .841 OPS.

Seiya Suzuki is approaching free agency with his future with the Chicago Cubs undecided after the end of the five-year, $85 million contract he signed in March 2022.
Speaking through interpreter Edwin Stanberry after Chicago’s postseason elimination, Suzuki said his family loved the city but that he did not know how the free-agent process would unfold. He did not announce a decision to leave or return.
Suzuki hit .270 with 26 home runs, 31 doubles and 86 RBIs this season. He finished with an .841 OPS and a career-high 81 walks, according to MLB.com’s season review.
Over five seasons with Chicago, the 32-year-old outfielder hit .269 with 113 home runs and 382 RBIs in 675 games. He joined the Cubs after playing for the Hiroshima Toyo Carp in Japan.
Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer said the club could not retain every pending free agent and expected its 2027 roster to change. He did not give a specific decision on Suzuki.
