Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has joined Atlético Madrid’s ownership group, the Spanish soccer club announced Thursday.

The announcement describes his investment as part of Atlético’s long-term plans and international growth. It does not specify the size of his stake, the purchase price or an operational role for him at the club.

Gilgeous-Alexander said he was grateful for the opportunity to become part of Atlético’s future. The club noted that he had worn its colors before the ownership announcement.

The Canadian guard won his second consecutive NBA Most Valuable Player award in May. The NBA’s official award release records 31.1 points per game and 55.3 percent shooting during the 2025-26 regular season, when Oklahoma City finished with a league-best 64-18 record.

He also won the NBA championship and Finals MVP award in 2025. Atlético’s release identifies him as an investor in the club’s ownership group, with the financial terms of the transaction undisclosed.
