Hornets waive Pat Connaughton before new NBA season
Charlotte announced the veteran guard's departure. Connaughton was part of Milwaukee's 2021 championship team.

The Charlotte Hornets waived guard Pat Connaughton on Friday, announcing the departure of a veteran who helped Milwaukee win the 2021 NBA championship.
President of basketball operations Jeff Peterson confirmed the move in a team release. The announcement did not identify another club for Connaughton or explain Charlotte’s decision.
Connaughton entered the NBA as Brooklyn’s 41st overall selection in the 2015 draft. The Nets traded his rights to Portland that night in the deal involving Mason Plumlee and Steve Blake.
He spent the first three seasons of his NBA career with the Trail Blazers before joining Milwaukee as a free agent in August 2018. The Bucks later credited Connaughton with appearing in all 23 playoff games during their 2021 championship run.
The Notre Dame product played four college basketball seasons before making the move to the NBA. He earned third-team All-ACC recognition in 2015, the year Portland acquired his draft rights.
