Torey Lovullo will remain the Diamondbacks’ manager on a two-year agreement, keeping him in Arizona through 2028. Arizona’s Family reported the team’s confirmation Thursday, ending the uncertainty surrounding his expiring contract.

The deal aligns Lovullo’s remaining term with general manager Mike Hazen’s. Arizona finished 86-76 and missed the postseason for the third consecutive year following its 2023 World Series appearance.

Lovullo described himself as “relieved and grateful and excited” after the agreement, according to Arizona’s Family. He had taken several days away from questions about his future before speaking with the organization.

An 86-win season without a playoff berth

Arizona’s hopes lasted until the final day. The Diamondbacks needed a win over San Diego and a Philadelphia loss, but the Phillies beat Tampa Bay 7-3 to claim the last National League wild-card spot.

The result followed other narrow misses. Arizona won 89 games in 2024 and lost a three-way tiebreaker with Atlanta and the Mets. The 2025 team finished 80-82 after a season of injuries and roster changes.

MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert reports that Lovullo enters his 11th season as manager in 2027. He has a 750-768 regular-season record with Arizona, the most wins by a manager in franchise history.

His first Arizona team won 93 games and reached the postseason in 2017. Six years later, the Diamondbacks won the National League pennant. The new agreement gives Lovullo two more seasons to pursue another return, with the offseason roster work still ahead.
