Ben Simmons Tears Achilles in Kings Practice Ahead of Season Opener
The injury interrupts Simmons’ return with Sacramento.

Ben Simmons tore his right Achilles during Sacramento Kings practice Sunday, interrupting his return to the NBA before the regular season begins.
The Australian guard joined Sacramento in September after missing the previous season. He last appeared in regular-season NBA games in 2024–25, playing for Brooklyn before moving to the Los Angeles Clippers. The Kings became his fourth NBA team.
Simmons had 14 points, eight rebounds and seven assists against San Antonio in Sacramento’s final preseason game Friday. That appearance came two days before his injury.
Philadelphia selected Simmons first overall in the 2016 draft following his season at LSU. A foot injury delayed his debut until the next season, when he won Rookie of the Year. He later earned three consecutive All-Star selections from 2019 through 2021 and two All-Defensive first-team selections.
Simmons signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Kings on September 8. The injury is expected to keep him out for the 2026–27 season.
