Auburn stuns No. 1 Georgia on McPherson’s last-second field goal
Alex McPherson’s 34-yard kick gives Auburn a 27–24 victory after a late Georgia fumble in Athens.

Alex McPherson made a 34-yard field goal as time expired Saturday, giving Auburn a 27–24 victory over No. 1 Georgia at Sanford Stadium and ending the Bulldogs’ unbeaten start.
Georgia had a chance to drive for the winning score after getting the ball at its own 39 with 1:12 remaining. Gunner Stockton fumbled near midfield, however, and Auburn recovered at its own 44 with 58 seconds left. The Tigers then advanced into range for McPherson’s decisive kick, according to Georgia’s official game report.
The finish followed two substantial swings. Georgia built a 14–0 lead, Auburn scored the next 24 points, and the Bulldogs responded with a field goal and Stockton’s four-yard touchdown pass to London Humphreys. That touchdown tied the score with 2:58 to play.
Byrum Brown passed for 150 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 115 yards and another score for Auburn. Stockton threw for 272 yards and two touchdowns but was intercepted twice before the late fumble.
Georgia finished with a 440–366 advantage in total offense. Auburn improved to 4–2 overall and 2–2 in the SEC; Georgia fell to 6–1 and 4–1.
