Eagles rule out Jalen Hurts against Panthers after blood clot moves
Philadelphia says a follow-up ultrasound detected movement in the calf clot. Tanner McKee is next on the quarterback depth chart.

Jalen Hurts will miss Philadelphia’s game against Carolina on Sunday after a follow-up ultrasound showed movement in a superficial blood clot in his calf, the Eagles announced Thursday. The team said it was determining his treatment and did not announce a return date.
Philadelphia said Hurts reported calf discomfort after practice on Oct. 8, telling medical staff he had been cleated during the Oct. 4 game against the Rams. He had practiced fully on Wednesday and Thursday before receiving treatment and being added to the injury report Friday.
An ultrasound performed Saturday in London revealed the clot. The Eagles said their medical staff and doctors in London reviewed the results and determined he could safely play against Jacksonville. Hurts played without restrictions in Sunday’s 19-17 loss, then received treatment Monday and Tuesday and practiced fully Wednesday.
The follow-up ultrasound Wednesday night led to the decision to hold him out. Backup Tanner McKee is next on the depth chart following Andy Dalton’s release. Hurts has passed for 933 yards with eight touchdowns and three interceptions for the 2-3 Eagles, who have lost three consecutive games.
