Washington Commanders co-owner Magic Johnson publicly criticized the team’s clock management after Sunday’s 27–27 overtime tie with the New York Giants.

Johnson said he was in “total disbelief” over the finish in a social media post, focusing on Washington’s failure to get a field-goal attempt before time expired.

The Commanders had reached the Giants’ 24-yard line with 12 seconds remaining and no timeouts. Jayden Daniels took the next snap and was tackled as the clock ran out.

The play prevented Washington from stopping the clock and sending out its kicking team. Johnson’s reaction made the frustration visible at the ownership level as well as on the sideline.

Coach Dan Quinn and Daniels both accepted responsibility for the failed finish, the Los Angeles Times reported. Quinn pointed to the need to stop the clock earlier; Daniels acknowledged the offense’s responsibility to understand and communicate the situation.

Johnson joined the Commanders’ ownership group in 2023. His criticism addressed the handling of the final possession; it did not announce a personnel or ownership decision.

The tie left Washington with a missed opportunity to turn a late drive into a victory. Its response now includes correcting the situational mistake identified by the coach, quarterback and co-owner.
