Players who sign up for LIV Golf next season will not be allowed to become members of the DP World Tour, chief executive Guy Kinnings told the BBC on Monday.

The announced stance applies to the 2027 membership decision. It creates another consideration for players assessing the relaunched LIV circuit and their eligibility to play events on the European tour.

Reuters reported that the tour would not accept new members intending to play LIV and could terminate an existing membership if a player joined without disclosing it.

Kinnings emphasized compliance with the tour’s rules. The position follows arrangements that had allowed some players conditional releases to compete on both circuits.

Membership matters beyond the regular tour schedule. European players’ Ryder Cup eligibility is tied to DP World Tour membership, making the 2027 decision important to anyone who hopes to retain that route to selection.

The relevant questions for individual players are the terms of their current membership and any future LIV agreement. The report sets out the tour’s prospective stance without resolving every player’s situation.

For the sport’s business, the announcement adds a membership consequence to the competition between the two schedules. It will be worth following the tour’s formal membership decisions and the responses of players considering their 2027 plans.
