The NFL’s roster deadline began producing consequential moves on Saturday as teams worked toward reducing their 90-man groups to 53 players by Sunday at 6 p.m. ET. CBS Sports tracked hundreds of releases alongside a run of trades designed to secure value before players reached the waiver wire.
Dallas acquired offensive lineman Broderick Jones and a 2027 fourth-round pick from Pittsburgh for third- and sixth-round selections in 2027. Jacksonville added quarterback Quinn Ewers from Miami for a 2027 sixth-round pick. Kansas City acquired tackle Diego Pounds from Baltimore for a conditional Day 3 selection, while New England added running back Corey Kiner from Arizona. The Jets also planned to release former first-round defensive tackle Mazi Smith.
The volume is the point as much as any individual transaction. Players with fewer than four accrued seasons are subject to waivers after being released, giving teams an incentive to trade before the deadline rather than risk losing a target to another claimant. Depth charts are being settled now, but the process will continue through Monday’s waiver period and the construction of practice squads.
