Shohei Ohtani returned to the Dodgers’ active roster Wednesday after a stint on the injured list with right biceps and left knee problems. Los Angeles put him back in the lineup against San Diego with five regular-season games remaining.
The activation gives the Dodgers their biggest offensive name back as they prepare to defend their World Series title. Ohtani entered his return with 30 home runs and a .902 OPS, although he had hit .186 over his final 15 games before going on the injured list, according to theScore.
His return is as a hitter, with no pitching comeback expected this year in RotoWire’s activation report. Ohtani has not appeared on the mound since July 3.
Los Angeles optioned Josue De Paula in the corresponding roster move. The remaining games give Ohtani time to regain his timing at the plate before the postseason.
