Lamine Yamal scored twice as Spain beat Croatia 4–1 in Seville on Tuesday, making it two wins from two matches at the start of its UEFA Nations League campaign.
Marc Pubill and Nico Williams also scored at Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium. Dion Drena Beljo supplied Croatia’s only goal, briefly bringing the visitors level before Spain regained the lead.
Yamal opened the scoring in the second minute, following his early goal in Saturday’s 3–2 victory over England at Wembley. Alex Baena delivered the ball, Fermin Lopez let it run, and Yamal finished to put Spain ahead.
Croatia equalized in the 28th minute when Beljo converted an Ivan Perisic cross. It was Beljo’s first senior international goal, scored on his third appearance for his country.
Spain restored its advantage three minutes later. Yamal turned provider, crossing for Pubill to head home and make it 2–1. That score remained in place through halftime.
Pedri then helped create Yamal’s second goal in the 63rd minute. The winger’s finish gave Spain a two-goal cushion and took his scoring total for the opening two Nations League matches to three.
Williams completed the scoring in the 88th minute. Croatia had been within one goal for much of the match before Spain added its third and fourth during the second half.
The match was Spain’s first home appearance since winning the World Cup. The national side extended its unbeaten run to 40 matches, according to the Spanish federation’s report on the victory.
Spain now has six points in League A, Group 3. England moved onto three with its 2–0 win against Czechia on Tuesday, while Croatia also has three after beating the Czechs in its opening game. Czechia has lost both matches.
Yamal’s two goals against Croatia followed his scoring contribution at Wembley, where Spain won a five-goal opener. Pubill’s header and Williams’ late finish gave the hosts four goals in their second group match, bringing their total for the opening two fixtures to seven.
