WNBA Finals Opener Averages 2.1 Million Viewers
Golden State beat Atlanta 68–64 in Game 1 at Chase Center, with Gabby Williams scoring 26.

NBC/Peacock’s combined U.S. average was 2.1 million; the peak reached three million, NBC reported Wednesday.
The average and peak answer different questions. An average describes viewing across the measured telecast, while a peak identifies its highest reported interval. The larger peak should not replace the full-game average in an audience comparison.
Nielsen’s explanation of audience metrics distinguishes an average-minute audience from digital video starts. Neither a peak nor a gross view count supplies the number of different people who watched an entire game.
Golden State won the October 17 opener 68–64 at Chase Center, finishing with seven unanswered points. Gabby Williams scored 26 for the Valkyries, who took the early lead in the best-of-seven series.
For earlier postseason context, ESPN reported a 1.4 million average across eight playoff games through the semifinals. That is a separate multi-game package on different outlets. Comparing it with one Finals broadcast does not establish a like-for-like year-over-year change.
