Why the Saints Are the Home Team in Paris

New Orleans is hosting the Paris game on its schedule. The designation affects tickets, presentation and preparations even though both teams travel.

The Saints are the home team in Paris because the October 25 game occupies a New Orleans home date on the NFL schedule. Pittsburgh is the visiting club. Stade de France changes where the game is played, while the home and away designations still govern the matchup.

The distinction has practical consequences, from ticket access to preparations in France. It also explains why the Saints’ Paris appearance does not give New Orleans an extra game beyond its regular-season schedule.

A Home Date Outside New Orleans

The Saints’ official 2026 schedule lists Pittsburgh as a home opponent in Paris. In its February announcement, the club said its Superdome regular-season slate would contain eight games. It adjusted season-ticket and parking packages by 10 percent to reflect the games scheduled in New Orleans.

That announcement also described Paris as a league-led event. Eligible Saints season-ticket holders were offered a lottery for access to the club’s limited allocation. A Superdome season-ticket account therefore did not automatically become an equivalent seat in France.

What Home Status Changes in France

Steelers president Art Rooney II outlined the difference in a May 14 interview about the schedule. Pittsburgh controlled the presentation of its designated home game in Dublin in 2025. It would not have that same control as the road team in Paris.

Rooney also said the Steelers would have access to fewer tickets than they would as the home club. The team’s account identified another advantage for the designated host: first choice of hotels and practice facilities. Those are specific operational benefits, even though both teams must travel overseas.

Home status does not establish which fan base will be louder. It tells readers which club is hosting under the league’s arrangements; the atmosphere still depends on the people in the stadium.

Why New Orleans Fits the Event

The Saints’ February account of their selection emphasized Louisiana’s cultural connection with France and the team’s international work. The NFL awarded New Orleans marketing rights in France in 2023, making it the first and only club with those rights there at the time of the announcement.

Those connections explain the club’s public case for participating. They do not, by themselves, establish every reason the NFL assigned the home date to New Orleans.

For viewers, the game remains Saints versus Steelers at Stade de France on Sunday, October 25, with kickoff at 7:30 a.m. MDT. The useful distinction is that New Orleans is hosting an international home game and Pittsburgh is making an international road trip.
