Stars hope to begin Robertson contract talks in December
Jim Nill targets early December discussions; Robertson can sign a long-term extension January 1.

Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill hopes to begin contract talks with Jason Robertson around December 1, NHL.com reported Saturday, October 17.
Robertson, 27, is playing on a one-year, $12 million contract signed in July that avoided a salary arbitration hearing. He becomes eligible to sign a long-term extension January 1, 2027, ahead of potential unrestricted free agency after this season.
Nill said he wants the Stars to establish themselves early in the season before meeting Robertson’s representatives. Robertson said his own focus is on the opening 20 games before evaluating how his season is progressing.
Robertson led Dallas with 96 points last season, scoring 45 goals and adding 51 assists in 82 games. His goal total was one short of the career-high 46 he scored in 2022-23.
He added five goals and three assists in six playoff games before Dallas lost to Minnesota in the first round. The Stars selected Robertson with the 39th pick in the 2017 draft.
