New York Rangers goaltender Igor Shesterkin will miss the remainder of the season with a lower-body injury, the team announced Saturday, according to NHL.com.

Shesterkin left Friday’s 3–1 loss at Washington in the second period after his skate caught the goalpost as he moved back toward his net. Teammates helped him off the ice.

He had stopped 13 of 14 shots before Dylan Garand replaced him and made 11 saves. Shesterkin’s season ends with a 3–1–0 record in five starts, a 1.79 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage.

New York is also without Joonas Korpisalo, who is expected to miss four weeks with a lower-body injury. Garand had been recalled from Hartford on October 1 and earned his first NHL shutout against Detroit the next day.

Shesterkin won the Vezina Trophy in 2021–22. The Rangers, 4–2–0, next host Vancouver on Sunday. The season-ending announcement did not provide a more specific diagnosis.
