William Nylander matched his career high with five points Saturday, scoring twice and adding three assists as the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Colorado Avalanche 6–3 in Denver.

Auston Matthews contributed two goals and two assists, while Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves. Toronto improved to 3–2–1 with its first road victory of the season, according to the NHL.com recap.

The decisive turn came late in the second period. Nylander tied the game at 3–3 at 16:47, and Easton Cowan put Toronto ahead 46 seconds later.

Matthews stretched the lead with a power-play goal at 12:02 of the third, then added an empty-netter with 39 seconds remaining. Nick Blankenburg scored Toronto’s opening goal in his Maple Leafs debut.

Nathan MacKinnon scored twice for Colorado, which also received a goal from Brock Nelson. The Avalanche fell to 3–2–0 despite holding leads of 2–1 and 3–2.

Toronto’s win also came with an injury concern: defenseman Chris Tanev left during the first period with an upper-body injury. The recap did not establish a return timetable.
