Markstrom Out 10–14 Days As Panthers Turn to Schmid and Black
Schmid is listed to start Wednesday in Ottawa. Maurice says Black will see playing time during Markstrom’s absence.

Jacob Markstrom is expected to miss 10–14 days after being struck by a puck in practice, Florida coach Paul Maurice said Tuesday. The Panthers open a four-game road trip Wednesday with Akira Schmid expected to start against Ottawa.
Florida recalled Cooper Black from Charlotte on October 20. Maurice said Black will receive playing time during Markstrom’s absence, according to reporting from Tuesday’s availability. That creates an opportunity for Black’s NHL debut, without establishing a particular game for it.
Markstrom left Monday’s practice with an upper-body injury. His estimated recovery period leaves Florida preparing to use both available goalies while he is out, rather than assigning the entire stretch to Schmid.
The October 21 NHL lineup report lists Schmid to start against the Senators, with Black backing him up. The game at Canadian Tire Centre is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. MDT.
Black was previously called up from October 13–16 without appearing in a game. He made 33 saves in Charlotte’s 4–2 win over Hartford on Saturday before returning to the Panthers.
