Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez has reached an agreement in principle to settle a civil lawsuit arising from his October 2025 altercation with a truck driver in Indianapolis, according to reporting by The Athletic.

The lawsuit was brought by Perry Tole, who was 69 at the time of the confrontation. Sanchez suffered stab wounds during the incident, while Tole alleged injuries to his head, jaw and neck.

NBC Sports reported a separate September criminal plea agreement, with undisclosed terms. Civil dismissal is expected by January 8, 2027.

The civil agreement addresses Tole’s lawsuit. Financial terms were not disclosed in PEOPLE’s report of the settlement.

Sanchez was in Indianapolis to work a Raiders–Colts broadcast for Fox when the incident occurred. Fox subsequently ended its relationship with him. His broadcasting career followed his retirement from football in 2019.

The Jets selected Sanchez fifth overall in the 2009 draft. He later played for Philadelphia and Dallas.
