Jalen Duren’s $200 million offer remains unsigned as deadline nears

Jalen Duren’s contract dispute with the Pistons is approaching an October 1 decision point after Detroit offered a reported $200 million over five years. The sides remained without an agreement in the reporting available Thursday.

The proposal is fully guaranteed and contains no player option, team option or incentives, according to reporting by The Athletic cited by Hoops Wire. Duren can instead accept a $9.6 million qualifying offer for this season and become an unrestricted free agent next summer.

That choice would give the center greater control over his next destination while requiring him to pass up the security of the longer contract. A qualifying offer would also give him the ability to veto a trade.

Detroit has resisted sign-and-trade discussions, according to the same reporting. The approaching deadline gives Duren a choice between the longer offer and a much shorter commitment that would let him reach unrestricted free agency sooner.
