No. 21 Florida ran for 302 yards and six touchdowns in a 52–28 victory over No. 4 Ole Miss on Saturday, improving to 4–0 with its second consecutive Southeastern Conference win.
Jadan Baugh carried 29 times for 142 yards and three touchdowns, and Duke Clark added 126 yards and a score on 12 attempts. Florida’s six rushing touchdowns accounted for all but one of its seven trips to the end zone.
The win took Jon Sumrall’s Gators to 2–0 in the SEC, following last weekend’s 44–39 victory at Auburn. Ole Miss fell to 3–1 overall and 1–1 in conference play after beating LSU a week earlier.
The Gators led 17–6 at halftime after Baugh scored on runs of four and two yards. Patrick Durkin added a 49-yard field goal, while Ole Miss settled for two field goals before the break.
Trinidad Chambliss brought the Rebels within three points twice during the third quarter. His eight-yard touchdown run and a successful two-point conversion cut Florida’s lead to 17–14, but Clark answered with a 45-yard touchdown run.
Chambliss scored again from 10 yards to make it 24–21. Florida responded with Aaron Philo’s one-yard touchdown run before Dallas Wilson scored on a six-yard run early in the fourth quarter, extending the lead to 38–21.
Ole Miss reduced the deficit when Chambliss found Deuce Alexander for a two-yard touchdown. Philo then connected with Amir Jackson for a five-yard score, and Baugh added his third rushing touchdown to complete Florida’s scoring.
Philo completed 16 of 23 passes for 196 yards and one touchdown without an interception. Florida did not commit a turnover, converted six of 10 third downs and allowed no sacks.
Chambliss finished with 298 passing yards, 44 rushing yards and three total touchdowns, but also threw an interception. Alexander had seven receptions for 134 yards as the Rebels lost for the first time this season.
Florida finished with a 498–426 advantage in total offense and held the ball for 36 minutes, 59 seconds. The Gators ran 76 plays to the Rebels’ 61, with Baugh and Clark combining for 41 carries.
Florida travels to Missouri on October 3 before returning home to face South Carolina on October 10. Ole Miss has an open weekend before visiting Vanderbilt on October 10.
