Team updates

Kansas City Chiefs
Walker confirms lead role; Johnson earns stash value
Kenneth Walker III · 29 Week 1 opportunitiesEmmett Johnson · Preferred backfield stashPatrick Mahomes · Three total TDs

What changed: Kansas City won 31–10. Walker rushed 23 times for 173 yards and a touchdown, then caught three of six targets for 18 yards and another score. Johnson supplied 68 scrimmage yards on 10 touches. Mahomes accounted for three touchdowns in his return from knee surgery.

Fantasy impact: Walker’s 29 opportunities make him the clear start. Johnson’s secondary role makes him the preferred stash, not a standalone starter. Rashee Rice scored on two targets, Xavier Worthy drew six, Travis Kelce turned five targets into 71 yards, and Thornton did not catch his lone target.

Depth/usage note: The completed game replaces the untested backfield assumption with an observed Walker-led split. One game does not establish a permanent weekly target share.

Denver Broncos
Bryant emerges; Mims needs a hip follow-up
Pat Bryant · 6 targetsMarvin Mims Jr. · Hip follow-up pendingJaylen Waddle · Flex, not automatic start

What changed: Bryant caught four of six targets for 42 yards, leading Denver’s wide receivers in targets, catches and yards despite his backup listing. Courtland Sutton caught two of five targets for 11 yards, Waddle caught one of three for two, and Mims drew no target. Engram caught four of five targets for 43 yards and Denver’s only touchdown.

Injury: Mims briefly left with a hip issue and returned. No Week 2 designation had been announced at the reporting cutoff.

Fantasy impact: Put Bryant on the active watch list, keep Engram in the tight-end-option tier, treat Waddle as a flex rather than an automatic start, and monitor Mims. J.K. Dobbins led the backfield with eight carries for 36 yards; RJ Harvey had three carries and caught all four targets for 23 yards, a receiving role worth watching but not a locked flex.

Depth/usage note: The listed receiver order did not match the Week 1 target order. Route and snap shares were not verified at this cutoff.

Edition overview, reporting cutoff, status key and sources

Week 1 is closed. Kansas City’s backfield produced the clearest final role change, while Denver’s passing game left a new receiver to monitor and one injury follow-up unresolved.

Reporting cutoff: September 14, 2026, 10:45 p.m. MDT / September 15, 12:45 a.m. ET.

What changed

  • Kenneth Walker III handled 23 carries and six targets; Emmett Johnson added eight carries and two targets behind him.

Fantasy impact

  • Start Walker and keep Johnson as the preferred Kansas City backfield stash. Tyquan Thornton returns to the bench.
