The defender’s surgeon has reviewed his recovery from April’s hamstring operation, with a return to team training approaching and match fitness still to rebuild.

Éder Militão is moving closer to a return for Real Madrid after a positive assessment by the surgeon who operated on his hamstring in April, according to MARCA.

Finnish specialist Lasse Lempainen examined the defender at Madrid’s training base. MARCA reported Saturday that the results cleared the way for him to work toward rejoining the squad, with a competitive comeback expected during October if his recovery continues as planned.

His first appearance will depend on how he responds to group training and how quickly he rebuilds his conditioning. The report did not identify a target match, leaving Madrid to assess his readiness as he resumes work with the squad.

Lempainen said Militão was progressing according to the recovery plan in a social media message reproduced by Managing Madrid. He thanked the player and Madrid’s medical and performance staff for their work during the assessment.

“Returning to the field is a milestone. Returning to your highest performance level is the goal,” Lempainen wrote.

Madrid confirmed on April 28 that Militão had undergone surgery for a rupture of the proximal tendon of the biceps femoris in his left leg. Lempainen performed the operation under the supervision of the club’s medical team, with rehabilitation due to begin in the following days.

The operation followed an injury against Alavés that ended his season and ruled him out of Brazil’s World Cup campaign. AS reported at the time that the anticipated absence was around five months, placing the current assessment near the end of that initial recovery period.

Militão’s latest layoff followed two serious knee injuries in successive seasons. He tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in 2023, then suffered a rupture in his right knee in 2024, with damage to both menisci.

MARCA reported that Militão had recently completed demanding individual work on the pitch. The positive assessment now brings him closer to training alongside his teammates after another extended absence, although the club still has to establish when he can cope with competitive minutes.
