ESPN's College GameDay averaged 2.9 million viewers from Iowa City on Oct. 3, the largest October audience in the show's history and its third-largest regular-season audience, the network announced Thursday.

The full-show average was also the highest of the 2026 season. Its final hour averaged 3.7 million viewers, a separate figure for that part of the broadcast rather than the audience for the entire program.

Through five weeks, GameDay's season average was running 6% ahead of 2025 and 27% ahead of 2024, according to ESPN. Three of the show's five largest regular-season episodes have aired this season.

The announcement came ahead of the Oct. 10 edition from Alabama, where the show will originate inside Coleman Coliseum because of expected inclement weather. Former Alabama quarterback Bryce Young is scheduled to join Nick Saban as the celebrity guest picker.

GameDay is in its 40th season. ESPN's record claim applies to October episodes, while the broader historical ranking is limited to regular-season shows.
