Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey won the Premier League's Player of the Matchweek fan vote on September 23 after scoring a hat-trick in Sunday's 5-3 defeat at Manchester City.

Brobbey became Sunderland's first Premier League hat-trick scorer since Jermain Defoe in 2016. He equalised in the 12th and 33rd minutes before completing his treble in the 59th, reducing City's lead to 4-3.

City eventually secured the result with a late Erling Haaland goal. Antoine Semenyo had scored twice for the hosts, with Enzo Fernandez and Rayan Cherki also contributing to their fifth successive league victory.

Brobbey's award comes from a supporters' poll across the matchweek. Sunderland left Manchester without points, but his repeated responses to City's goals earned recognition beyond the result.
