Gavin McKenna set for first NHL road game against Vegas
Toronto’s rookie follows his first NHL goal with a visit to Mitch Marner and the Golden Knights.

Gavin McKenna’s first NHL road game brings the Toronto Maple Leafs to Las Vegas on Thursday, two days after the rookie scored his first goal. Toronto visits Mitch Marner and the Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on October 8, with puck drop scheduled for 8 p.m. Mountain Time.
The 18-year-old had a goal and an assist in Tuesday’s 5–4 overtime win against Nashville. Toronto erased a three-goal deficit, and Auston Matthews scored the overtime winner. McKenna’s first point came on John Tavares’ second-period goal before he scored later in the period.
McKenna has two points and seven shots through four games, all played at home. The NHL’s projected lineup places him with Nick Paul and Colton Sissons on the third line, while Easton Cowan moves onto a line with Tavares and William Nylander. Those combinations are projections ahead of warmups.
Toronto enters 2–2–0 and is seeking consecutive wins for the first time this season. Its official game notes list McKenna as the franchise’s youngest player to score his first NHL goal since Luke Richardson in October 1987.
Vegas is 3–1–0 after a 6–2 win at Seattle on Tuesday. Jack Eichel has two goals and eight assists in four games, including four points against the Kraken. Marner has a goal and an assist in four appearances for the Golden Knights.
Vegas will be without Victor Olofsson, who is listed as week to week after an injury in Seattle. Raphael Lavoie is expected to replace him on the third line for his season debut. Sergei Bobrovsky and Adin Hill are the projected starting goalies for Toronto and Vegas, respectively.
TSN4 is the listed Canadian television feed, with Scripps carrying the game in Vegas’s U.S. market. Availability depends on location and subscription.
