Yankees Reportedly Agree to Three-Year Extension With Pitching Coach Matt Blake
MLB Network insider Jon Heyman reported a new deal for Blake, whose previous contract was due to expire after this year’s World Series.

The Yankees have reportedly agreed to a three-year contract extension with pitching coach Matt Blake, MLB.com reported Saturday, citing MLB Network insider Jon Heyman. The club had not confirmed the agreement when the report was published.
Blake’s previous contract was due to expire after the 2026 World Series. The reported deal would retain the coach New York hired in November 2019 to replace Larry Rothschild.
The Yankees’ original hiring announcement described a coach with a player-development background. Blake had spent four seasons in Cleveland’s organization, beginning as a lower-level pitching coordinator before moving into broader development roles.
He worked as assistant director of player development for three seasons and was promoted to director of pitching development shortly before joining New York. His responsibilities included developing pitching strategy with coaches, coordinators and the front office.
Before Cleveland, Blake was pitching coordinator at Cressey Sports Performance and also coached in the Cape Cod League. He pitched at Holy Cross and graduated in 2007.
The Yankees’ current coaching roster continues to list Blake as pitching coach.
