Amen Thompson blocked Victor Wembanyama’s attempt to tie the game in the final second as the Houston Rockets beat the San Antonio Spurs 114–110 at Moody Center in Austin on Friday, October 23.

The Rockets were ahead by two when Thompson challenged Wembanyama near the basket. Fred VanVleet followed with two free throws, according to The Associated Press’s game report published by the NBA. Houston improved to 2–0; San Antonio dropped to 0–2.

Alperen Sengun led Houston with 29 points. Thompson added 20 points and 10 rebounds, while Kevin Durant contributed 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Wembanyama finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds, and Dylan Harper scored 20 for the Spurs, the official box score shows.

Durant’s 3-pointer with 1:34 remaining gave Houston a four-point advantage. Harper’s dunk with 46 seconds left brought San Antonio within two before Thompson’s defensive stop.

An earlier Wembanyama 3-pointer did not count because San Antonio had called timeout before his release, AP reported. Both teams play again Saturday, with Houston visiting Atlanta and San Antonio traveling to Dallas.
