Semenyo Faces Up to Eight Weeks Out As Man City Assess Haaland

Antoine Semenyo could miss up to eight weeks with a knee injury, Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca said Monday, while Erling Haaland remains in contention for Tuesday’s Champions League match against AEK Athens.

Semenyo was injured during Saturday’s 3–2 Premier League win over Ipswich Town. Sunday’s scans eased the club’s initial concerns, although Maresca indicated that the winger could be absent until around December.

“It could be eight weeks,” Maresca said in City’s account of his news conference. That is an estimated recovery period, rather than a confirmed return date.

The absence reduces Maresca’s options for managing Haaland’s workload. Semenyo had been identified as a player who could operate through the middle when City needed an alternative striker.

Haaland took a knock against Ipswich but had improved by Sunday, according to Maresca. His availability still depended on further assessment.

“He can be available,” the manager said. “We’ll see.”

Reuters reported that Haaland’s knock affected his foot and ankle. Maresca identified Phil Foden as one possible attacking alternative, without confirming Tuesday’s lineup.

Haaland scored twice against Ipswich as City made it seven league victories from seven. Semenyo has contributed two league goals and three assists this season, according to Reuters.

City host AEK Athens at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, October 20, at 1 p.m. MDT. Their next European fixtures are away to RB Leipzig on November 4 and at home to Napoli on November 24, both within Semenyo’s projected recovery window.
