Josh Morrissey is now week to week with an upper-body injury, Winnipeg Jets coach Scott Arniel said Thursday, extending the defenseman’s expected recovery after he was hurt against Colorado on Oct. 7.

Arniel said surgery would not be needed, according to team reporter Mitchell Clinton’s report. The Jets initially listed Morrissey as day to day. He has missed two games and will remain unavailable Thursday when Winnipeg visits Chicago.

Morrissey collided with the glass at Canada Life Centre late in the first period while attempting a check. He held his right hand as he left the ice and eventually departed the game. Winnipeg has described the injury as upper-body and has not announced a specific return date.

The 31-year-old had three assists in four games this season and averaged more than 20 minutes per game before the injury. He recorded 14 goals and 41 assists in 77 games last season, Sportsnet reported. Winnipeg entered Thursday with a 4-1-1 record after beating Minnesota 5-2 on Tuesday.
