William Eklund is expected to miss 10 to 12 weeks after surgery to repair a torn tendon in his ankle, Ottawa Senators coach Travis Green said Thursday. Postmedia’s Bruce Garrioch reported the update after Ottawa’s morning skate.

The forward was injured in the Senators’ 2-1 win over Philadelphia on Oct. 8. He left in the first period after Flyers defenseman Simon Benoit checked him into the boards and could not put weight on his left leg while leaving the ice. Green initially said he did not expect Eklund to require surgery.

Eklund had a goal and an assist in four appearances this season. Ottawa acquired him from San Jose in June in a deal involving the ninth pick in the 2026 NHL draft, a selection the Senators had received from Florida in the Brady Tkachuk trade. He finished last season with 53 points in 78 games for the Sharks.

Ottawa entered Thursday with a 5-2-0 record and was scheduled to host the New York Islanders. Defenseman Artem Zub was set to make his season debut after recovering from a knee injury suffered in last season’s playoffs.
