Sturm credits Swayman; Tourigny cites special teams after Bruins’ 6–1 win

“We gave up a little bit too much for my taste and probably for yours too,” Boston coach Marco Sturm said after the Bruins’ 6–1 win over the Utah Mammoth on October 8 at TD Garden.

Asked about the number and quality of Utah’s first-period chances, Sturm credited Jeremy Swayman but said details slipped as Boston’s lead grew. Swayman stopped 36 of 37 shots.

On the Bruins’ penalty kill, Sturm pointed to the preparation and taking away Utah’s top-unit weapons. Boston killed all seven Mammoth power plays. “Sway did the rest,” he said.

Tourigny points to special teams

“They won that battle and I think that’s what tipped the scale,” Utah coach André Tourigny said of special teams. Boston scored on three of four power plays.

Asked how the loss could help Utah refocus for its next game, Tourigny said to “let it sting a little bit” before reviewing the tape with less emotion.

Tourigny also resisted singling out Sebastian Cossa, who was replaced after allowing three goals. He described tips and screens and said the assessment belonged to the team, coaches and players.
