SEC presidents approved uniform name, image and likeness and revenue-sharing contracts Monday, October 12, according to reports from CBS Sports and On3. CBS reported that the change takes effect immediately.
The contract template includes sections that individual schools can customize, the reports said. Details of those provisions were not disclosed. On3’s Pete Nakos reported the approval, and CBS Sports’ Brandon Marcello separately cited sources familiar with the vote.
The SEC follows the Big Ten in adopting a common contract model for athlete payments. Schools began sharing revenue directly with athletes in 2025 under the House v. NCAA settlement, making those agreements part of college sports’ payment system.
SEC presidents also postponed a separate vote on restoring the conference’s intraconference transfer restriction, both outlets reported. That proposal would require athletes moving between SEC schools to sit out a season. CBS noted that the previous restriction was lifted in June 2021.
The contract vote therefore does not establish a new transfer sit-out rule. The transfer proposal remains unresolved, while the reported contract approval allows school-specific adjustments rather than identical terms in every agreement.
