Michigan coach Kyle Whittingham said Monday that Bryce Underwood will remain the starting quarterback and offensive coordinator Jason Beck will continue calling plays.
The Wolverines are 3–2 overall and 0–2 in the Big Ten after consecutive losses to Iowa and Minnesota. They return from a bye to host Penn State on Saturday.
Whittingham’s decision keeps the offensive leadership in place after Michigan fell out of the Top 25. He emphasized correcting turnovers and continuing to adapt the offense, according to Field Level Media’s report carried by Reuters.
Underwood has completed 59.3 percent of his passes for 881 yards, five touchdowns and four interceptions in five games. He has also rushed for 212 yards and two touchdowns.
Michigan ranks 17th in the 18-team conference in scoring and total offense. The losses were close, 20–19 against Iowa and 20–14 at Minnesota, but the offensive production left questions entering the break.
Monday’s announcement settles who will lead the offense against Penn State. The pressure to improve remains, particularly in possession security and the ability to sustain drives.
