Final: Padres win 4–1 and complete the sweep
Final — San Diego 4, Chicago 1: The Padres won Wild Card Game 2 at Petco Park to complete a two-game sweep after their 8–0 victory in Game 1.
Gavin Sheets hit a two-run homer to right field in the fourth inning, scoring Xander Bogaerts and extending San Diego’s lead to 4–1. Nico Hoerner had singled home Seiya Suzuki in the top half for Chicago’s only run.
Bogaerts singled home Ty France and Ethan Salas followed with a sacrifice fly to score Jackson Merrill in San Diego’s two-run second inning. The Padres finished with eight hits to the Cubs’ five; neither team committed an error.
Mason Miller closed out the ninth. Carson Kelly grounded to Bogaerts at shortstop, with France recording the final out at first base.
