Alexander Zverev beat Learner Tien 7–6 (3), 6–3 on Sunday to secure Team Europe’s sixth Laver Cup title, completing a 13–5 victory over Team World at London’s O2 Arena.
Europe swept the two matches it needed on the final day. Flavio Cobolli and Jakub Mensik first defeated Taylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur 7–5, 6–3 in doubles, extending the overnight lead from 7–5 to 10–5 and leaving Zverev one win from the trophy.
The German then recovered from a difficult opening set against Tien to deliver the decisive three points. Sunday victories carried three points each, following one-point matches Friday and two-point matches Saturday.
Tien resisted the first sustained pressure on his serve, saving three break points at 5–5 in the opening set. He then earned a set point in the following game, but Zverev held and took control of the tiebreak, winning it 7–3.
Zverev broke for a 4–2 lead in the second set and immediately faced another test. Tien reached 0–40 on the German’s serve, only for Zverev to save all three break points and hold. After Tien kept the match alive with a service hold, Zverev served out the championship.
The result reversed their fortunes from Saturday’s singles matches. Tien had beaten Cobolli, while Zverev lost to de Minaur after holding a match point. Europe nevertheless finished the second day ahead and did not require either of Sunday’s remaining singles contests.
Yannick Noah claimed the trophy for the first time as Europe’s captain. His team reclaimed the title from Team World, which had won in San Francisco last year when Fritz beat Zverev in the deciding match.
Europe’s previous victories came in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2024. Team World has won three editions of the competition, which began in 2017 and pits European players against a team drawn from the rest of the world.
The event moves to the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, in 2027 for its 10th staging.
