Terence Crawford questioned a report linking him to a December fight against Ryan Garcia, asking why he knew nothing about the proposed matchup while Garcia publicly declared his willingness to fight.
The Ring’s Mike Coppinger reported September 25 that Crawford against Garcia was being considered as a replacement if problems derailed Tyson Fury’s December 11 meeting with Anthony Joshua.
“Dam what I miss?” Crawford wrote on X on September 26 after the report circulated.
Boxing247 reported that journalist Dan Rafael replied that Crawford was apparently fighting Garcia on December 11. Crawford responded with three laughing emojis and wrote: “dam am I? Why I don’t know about this?”
Garcia addressed Turki Alalshikh in his own post, writing: “You know I’m ready to Turki to run the fade,” before repeating that he was ready.
Crawford’s responses offered no confirmation that he had agreed to return, although he did not rule out a future fight with Garcia. Coppinger described a matchup under consideration, and neither boxer’s posts supplied an agreed weight or contractual terms.
Netflix’s official announcement continued to list Fury against Joshua for December 11 at Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, when checked Saturday. The broadcaster named The Ring and Dana White as collaborators promoting the event.
Crawford announced his retirement in December 2025, finishing with a 42-0 record and 31 knockouts. His last fight was a unanimous-decision victory over Canelo Alvarez on September 13, 2025, for the undisputed super-middleweight championship.
That win made Crawford a five-division world champion and the first male boxer in the four-belt era to become undisputed champion in three weight classes. He had previously unified the junior-welterweight and welterweight divisions.
Crawford and Garcia had been exchanging criticism before the latest report. During a September 11 Nightcap appearance, Crawford defended his record after Garcia questioned whether he had faced fast, young challengers during his career.
Garcia subsequently stopped Conor Benn in the second round on September 12. It was his first defence of the WBC welterweight title he won from Mario Barrios in February.
