Keelon Russell and unbeaten Alabama resume SEC play against South Carolina on Saturday, one week after the quarterback produced four touchdowns to help the Crimson Tide recover from a 15-point deficit against Florida State.
Kickoff at Bryant-Denny Stadium is set for 6 p.m. Central, or 7 p.m. Eastern, on ESPN. Alabama is 3–0 overall and 1–0 in the SEC after its 50–36 win over the Seminoles. South Carolina is 2–1 overall and 0–1 in the SEC.
Russell was named the Shaun Alexander Award Player of the Week on Tuesday after producing 376 yards of total offense against Florida State. The Maxwell Football Club’s award recognized a performance that included three touchdown passes and a rushing touchdown.
He completed 23 of 30 passes for 320 yards and carried three times for 56 yards. His rushing total included a 57-yard touchdown scramble, while his scoring passes covered 21, 46 and 16 yards.
All three touchdown throws came during a stretch of two minutes and 36 seconds before halftime. Alabama had trailed 21–6 before scoring 20 unanswered points late in the second quarter, taking a 26–21 lead into the break.
Ryan Coleman-Williams, Kaleb Edwards and Cederian Morgan caught the touchdown passes. Lotzeir Brooks led Alabama’s receivers with eight catches for 101 yards, while the offense finished with 567 total yards against the Seminoles.
Alabama finished with 247 rushing yards, with four players gaining at least 50 on the ground. Its first two possessions ended in punts before it scored on nine consecutive drives, according to the school’s official game recap.
Florida State still gained 471 yards, including 377 through the air. Alabama held the Seminoles to 94 rushing yards, marking the third consecutive game in which its defense kept an opponent below 100 yards on the ground.
Bray Hubbard, Red Morgan and Ivan Taylor each intercepted a pass against Florida State, helping Alabama preserve its unbeaten record heading into Saturday’s SEC matchup.
