CLIP 1 — Chris Russo, Mad Dog Unleashed / SiriusXM Machine-assisted transcript checked against a second local speech model. Proper-name recognition corrected; unresolved wording marked [unclear]. Speaker claims, estimates and verbal slips are retained. No independent human listening is claimed. Timestamps are relative to the extracted audio. The first clip begins mid-sentence. [00:00.00–00:03.70] Any commissioner, as he did, of course, sometime this morning. [00:03.90–00:08.10] Here's the problem that the NFL has with this, and this is accurate. [00:08.32–00:10.58] And they can sit there and they cannot put a guest on. [00:10.68–00:11.48] I don't care what they do. [00:11.66–00:17.36] The NFL has not earned the right from any owner, from any commissioner, from any doctor, [00:17.74–00:21.54] from the medical science community, in any shape, way, or form. [00:21.72–00:27.58] The NFL, going back to Tagliabue, the NFL does not deserve any benefit of the doubt [00:27.58–00:29.30] with health and safety for its players. [00:29.30–00:44.20] They do not deserve from grass fields to CTE to concussions to Sao Paulo to 10,000 mile road trips to an 18 game schedule up from 16 with 17 in the middle ground. [00:44.52–00:53.20] The NFL does not deserve any benefit of the doubt that they care one iota about the health and [unclear] with their players. [00:53.38–00:57.96] And they might actually be proved correct in this situation with Hurts. [00:57.96–01:00.48] They might actually have followed this right. [01:00.70–01:01.76] I don't know that. [01:01.96–01:05.78] But the idea that we are supposed to believe as fans, [01:06.06–01:08.12] as if I was a member of the Hurts family, [01:08.38–01:10.56] if I was a member of Oklahoma or Alabama, [01:10.88–01:12.94] if I was a Philadelphia Eagle fan, [01:12.96–01:15.20] or if I just was a concerned citizen, [01:15.48–01:17.86] the NFL with their propensity [01:17.86–01:21.18] to basically sell their labor for every nickel [01:21.18–01:24.02] and to make teams fly to Australia, [01:24.02–01:28.82] to put games in Sao Paulo on crap fields, [01:28.84–01:32.02] as they did a couple years ago with Philadelphia and Green Bay, [01:32.08–01:35.52] to sit there and go play a ball game in Brazil [01:35.52–01:39.70] and have the Cowboys fly 5,800 miles. [01:39.78–01:40.82] I don't care what planet it is. [01:40.96–01:42.26] It's 5,800 miles. [01:42.42–01:43.44] I don't care how you get there. [01:43.68–01:45.92] 5,800 miles is 5,800 miles. [01:46.20–01:50.40] And then never put a grass field in in their stadiums. [01:50.48–01:51.68] Give Buffalo credit they did. [01:51.68–02:00.96] And the NFL, who for years and years and years, until we saw the movie and that famous doctor said, you know, concussion scenarios, it's a real deal. [02:01.50–02:02.92] CTE is a real deal. [02:03.08–02:05.36] And this is a major problem in the league. [02:05.58–02:07.08] Then the league found religion. [02:07.30–02:09.24] Then the league cut back OTAs. [02:09.44–02:13.40] Then the league finally realized that, you know what, young kids are not going to play football. [02:13.52–02:14.68] Let's reduce something about this. [02:14.92–02:16.62] And this is becoming a major problem. [02:16.62–02:21.54] them. This is also an NFL that for years and years and years, and this includes the Players [02:21.54–02:26.90] Association, by the way, did not take care of its predecessor. You know, retired players who [02:26.90–02:30.78] couldn't move didn't take care of them. Now, eventually they got around it. They reached a [02:30.78–02:34.98] settlement. They paid them. They gave them what they deserved. But they had to basically have [02:34.98–02:40.02] their arms twisted, all these rich owners and a commissioner to finally get that done. And the [02:40.02–02:45.38] NFL, all they care about right now is playing another game. That's all they care about. We [02:45.38–02:47.62] I mean, what, 16 games wasn't enough? [02:47.72–02:49.44] Lombardi would tell you 12 games is enough. [02:49.88–02:51.56] 14 games, then 16 games. [02:51.64–02:52.98] Now we're going to go to 17 games, [02:53.04–02:54.70] and the rank and file are going to agree to it [02:54.70–02:55.64] because they want the money, [02:55.88–02:58.02] the guy who has the career that lasts two, three years, [02:58.18–03:00.56] these 23-year-old kids, not the big-time quarterback, [03:00.76–03:02.72] and then they're going to now add an 18th game. [03:02.86–03:04.62] So a league that has gone out there [03:04.62–03:06.56] and have put artificial grass in, [03:06.62–03:08.88] despite the fact the labor can't stand it, [03:09.02–03:11.54] whether it increases injuries or not, who knows, [03:11.76–03:13.78] but the labor can't stand it. [03:13.78–03:16.38] They refused to put [unclear: grass] in there. [03:16.52–03:20.06] They want to play more games, and they basically had to be embarrassed [03:20.06–03:25.68] from a movie standpoint from the Boston hospitals [03:25.68–03:28.86] to at least acknowledge that playing football is dangerous [03:28.86–03:33.42] and concussions can sit there and cause major dementia, [03:33.42–03:35.84] which then can result in suicide. [03:35.86–03:38.54] Go ask Dave Duerson. Go ask Junior Seau. [03:38.82–03:41.26] And so now the NFL wants us to believe [03:41.26–03:44.14] that a quarterback of a football team [03:44.14–03:46.20] who went to London with a blood clot, [03:46.48–03:48.84] who goes to London and gets tested, [03:49.06–03:50.36] that he does have a blood clot, [03:50.54–03:52.90] that was in the hospital the day before the game [03:52.90–03:54.96] for hour upon hour upon hour, [03:55.18–03:57.82] that left the hospital at 3.30, [03:58.30–04:00.32] essentially 12 hours before his game, [04:00.60–04:02.48] decided to play the game anyway [04:02.48–04:04.80] with, of course, the blessing of the medical, [04:04.80–04:05.84] quote-unquote, community, [04:06.02–04:07.32] and then played the game, [04:07.62–04:08.58] got out of an airplane, [04:08.96–04:10.36] flew back 7,000 miles, [04:10.36–04:12.46] more testing, more this, more that. [04:12.70–04:14.58] Now he's on blood thinners and he's gone for the year. [04:14.86–04:18.64] So the NFL cannot, under any circumstances, [04:18.92–04:22.76] be trusted with the idea, bring on an investigation. [04:23.00–04:25.48] A league that all they care about, [04:25.60–04:28.08] and listen, we love the league, play 40 games. [04:28.34–04:30.12] But I mean, all the league cares about [04:30.12–04:32.66] is the idea of let's make more money, [04:32.86–04:34.66] let's put games all over the place, [04:34.88–04:36.46] let's put games on Thursday night, [04:36.62–04:38.24] Wednesday afternoon, Friday night, [04:38.24–04:40.66] Let's make them play a Sunday and a Thursday. [04:40.98–04:43.14] Let's play three games in 11 days. [04:43.46–04:46.18] Let's play an 18-game schedule. [04:47.22–04:50.18] Let's shorten the workload from, you know, [04:50.26–04:52.18] let's shorten the gap from week to week. [04:52.72–04:54.06] A million things. [04:54.28–04:58.34] And now the NFL with Goodell is going to sit there [04:58.34–04:59.78] and tell me on a Wednesday afternoon, [04:59.98–05:01.26] trust us, we have it covered. [05:01.58–05:02.06] Nonsense. [05:02.56–05:03.76] You have not earned that trust. [05:04.60–05:05.64] You have not earned that. [05:06.52–05:08.02] You have not earned the trust. [05:08.02–05:08.98] and it's not just Goodell. [05:09.26–05:10.22] They have not earned that. [05:10.30–05:11.56] This goes back to Tagliabue. [05:11.94–05:13.36] They have not earned that trust. [05:13.56–05:15.08] And I love Tagliabue, but it's fair. [05:15.36–05:17.76] They have not earned the trust that they care. [05:18.12–05:19.66] And, you know, none of us as fans [05:19.66–05:21.70] were that wrapped up on it either, to be fair. [05:22.40–05:24.64] But none of the NFL, which, you know, [05:24.76–05:26.18] protect, quote unquote, the shield. [05:26.42–05:29.84] The NFL has never, until they've been forced to, [05:30.08–05:33.30] they have never, ever shown any inclination [05:33.30–05:35.06] to go out there and make sure [05:35.06–05:36.88] that their players are taken care of [05:36.88–05:39.34] from a proper medical standpoint. [05:39.34–05:41.04] And this is going back to the 1930s. [05:41.18–05:42.52] They have never cared. [05:42.84–05:44.58] Never have they cared. [05:44.86–05:45.30] Never. [05:46.00–05:49.02] They care more now because all eyes are on it [05:49.02–05:50.06] and it's embarrassing. [05:50.38–05:54.34] So now they got the neurologist on the sideline [05:54.34–05:57.00] and now they have been forced to. [05:57.18–05:58.46] But they didn't do it on their own. [05:58.58–05:59.78] They weren't proactive. [05:59.78–06:00.62] They were reactive. [06:01.86–06:04.80] And you can't scream as they do left and right, [06:04.80–06:07.82] day after day, week after week, month after month, [06:07.96–06:09.48] that all they care about safety, [06:09.66–06:12.22] yet all they do care about is making sure there's an 18th game. [06:12.56–06:14.22] That's what we're going to cut a preseason game. [06:14.58–06:14.94] Nonsense. [06:15.46–06:16.98] Nobody plays in a preseason anyway. [06:17.40–06:19.70] So you can't make a big deal about we're going to cut a game in August, [06:19.82–06:21.02] so what's the big deal about hitting a game? [06:21.64–06:22.00] Nonsense. [06:22.54–06:22.90] Nonsense. [06:23.58–06:26.46] All the NFL, and, you know, this goes with the players too [06:26.46–06:27.70] because they get a cut of the pie, [06:27.84–06:32.50] but all the NFL really cares about Roger and his, you know, 30 owners. [06:32.50–06:36.78] All they care about is making as much money as they possibly can. [06:36.98–06:40.96] And that means playing on Christmas with Netflix, Amazon Prime. [06:41.22–06:41.82] What the hell? [06:41.94–06:45.20] Let's play on Wednesday night before Thanksgiving, Black Friday, [06:45.58–06:49.18] play Saturdays, Sundays, Tuesdays, Monday, whatever day of the week. [06:49.32–06:51.06] They don't care. [06:51.60–06:52.54] They don't care. CLIP 2 — Chris Russo, Mad Dog Unleashed / SiriusXM Machine-assisted transcript checked against a second local speech model. Proper-name recognition corrected; unresolved wording marked [unclear]. Speaker claims, estimates and verbal slips are retained. No independent human listening is claimed. Timestamps are relative to the extracted audio. The first clip begins mid-sentence. [00:00.00–00:02.32] They don't want you to know that one out of four NFL players [00:02.32–00:03.34] might end up with CTE. [00:03.60–00:05.44] Did you see that report that came out a couple weeks ago? [00:06.02–00:07.10] They don't want you to know that. [00:09.12–00:12.44] But the idea that I'm going to sit around here on a Wednesday morning [00:12.44–00:14.62] and I'm going to listen, and I did it on first take, [00:14.74–00:16.04] so this is just, I did it there too, [00:16.36–00:18.60] and I don't care if the NFL doesn't like me. [00:18.68–00:20.98] I can care less, 67 years of age. [00:21.12–00:22.40] I'm out to pasture quick anyway. [00:22.62–00:25.02] But the idea that I am going to sit there [00:25.02–00:27.36] and I'm going to listen to the NFL commissioner, who I like, [00:27.70–00:29.14] but I'm going to listen to him tell me, [00:29.14–00:30.52] bring out an investigation. [00:30.86–00:32.08] Bring out an investigation. [00:32.40–00:34.74] You have done absolutely nothing [00:34.74–00:37.74] for years and years and years and years [00:37.74–00:39.94] unless you were embarrassed to do so [00:39.94–00:41.30] to take care of your labor. [00:42.06–00:42.62] Nothing. [00:42.92–00:45.54] And that includes a crappy field in Sao Paulo [00:45.54–00:46.98] when love got hurt. [00:47.56–00:48.12] Nothing. [00:49.60–00:50.16] Nothing. [00:50.96–00:53.14] And you let a quarterback [unclear] [00:53.14–00:56.00] and you could talk about the greatest doctors in the world. [00:56.10–00:59.00] And while we go look at these doctors for years [00:59.00–00:59.66] at a time. [00:59.82–01:01.12] We know if there's a major injury, [01:01.28–01:02.66] he had the right hospitals on the road. [01:03.08–01:03.52] Nonsense. [01:04.32–01:04.76] Nonsense. [01:05.46–01:07.64] You let a kid play in a football game [01:07.64–01:09.12] who had a blood clot. [01:10.74–01:12.48] And then that kid came back, [01:12.66–01:13.88] had more blood clots, [01:13.92–01:16.10] and now he's out for five months. [01:16.36–01:17.54] Don't sit there and tell me [01:17.54–01:18.34] that you gave a crap. [01:18.76–01:19.56] That I'm not buying. [01:20.58–01:21.54] That I'm not buying. [01:23.40–01:24.00] You're right. [01:24.14–01:25.68] Your job as the commissioner [01:25.68–01:26.84] is to protect, [01:27.00–01:28.04] and this goes for Lurie [01:28.04–01:29.50] and Howie Roseman and everybody else. [01:29.70–01:32.18] Your job is to protect your players [01:32.18–01:35.02] from their own, for their own good. [01:35.24–01:35.96] That's your job. [01:36.16–01:38.30] And then for the Eagles to go out there [01:38.30–01:40.14] and throw Sirianni to the alligators [01:40.14–01:42.22] and let him answer medical questions [01:42.22–01:43.78] might be the dumbest thing in the world. [01:43.92–01:44.56] Where's the owner? [01:45.54–01:47.02] How about him show some guts? [01:47.48–01:49.64] How about him face the media yesterday [01:49.64–01:50.86] or Monday in Philadelphia? [01:51.24–01:52.04] Forget the GM. [01:52.32–01:52.88] How about the owner? [01:53.80–01:55.14] How about Lurie go up there and say, [01:55.22–01:55.92] I take responsibility. [01:55.92–01:57.40] It's my team, my quarterback. [01:57.84–01:59.14] I'm paying him $250 million. [01:59.42–02:00.06] He shouldn't have played the game. [02:00.18–02:00.94] I'll take the responsibility. [02:01.26–02:02.06] How about him doing that? [02:02.36–02:03.68] I hire the medical community. [02:03.76–02:04.10] My job. [02:04.72–02:07.68] How about that owner having the balls to do that? [02:08.20–02:08.84] The balls. [02:10.28–02:11.38] Throwing a coach out. [02:11.66–02:12.76] What the hell is he supposed to say? [02:12.76–02:13.36] He's a coach. [02:13.98–02:15.74] If he's told he can play, he plays. [02:15.80–02:16.60] He's not a doctor. [02:17.96–02:19.60] Have Lurie put one of his doctors out. [02:19.76–02:22.34] And don't give me this nonsense about what private medicine thing. [02:22.60–02:24.04] Have Lurie come out and say, you know what? [02:24.06–02:24.74] He shouldn't have played the game. [02:24.76–02:25.32] I'll take the hit. [02:27.02–02:27.94] What a joke. [02:28.60–02:30.92] And then I got Goodell basically egging the NFL [02:30.92–02:32.04] Player Association on. [02:32.18–02:33.90] Yeah, come, we're ready for you, come on. [02:34.22–02:35.16] Come investigate us. [02:35.62–02:38.10] A guy who wants an 18th game come hell high water. [02:38.26–02:39.74] Like he cares about player safety. [02:40.22–02:41.82] Like 17 games isn't enough. [02:44.08–02:45.76] Like 16 games isn't enough. [02:46.36–02:47.78] More games he can sell. [02:48.06–02:49.04] That's what this is about. [02:50.92–02:52.50] And don't think anything else. [02:53.12–02:55.04] Don't let them tell you anything else [02:55.04–02:56.36] that's what this is about. [02:57.70–02:58.92] Their idea, yeah, [02:59.16–03:01.12] how in the world can you be such a hypocrite [03:01.12–03:03.26] that you tell the world that you care about safety [03:03.26–03:05.94] that your main goal in life is to add another game? [03:09.50–03:12.08] Now, don't you see the hypocrisy, Roger, in that? [03:15.36–03:17.52] And by the way, we're going to play again in Sao Paulo. [03:17.74–03:20.46] Rams and Niners go on a plane for 30 hours [03:20.46–03:21.24] to play in Australia. [03:23.42–03:24.38] What a joke. [03:26.72–03:28.50] [unclear time announcement], your calls are next. [03:28.64–03:29.34] Mad Dog Unleashed.
